Nokia Unveil One Of The Slimmest Smartphones Around

Nokia, or the cheeky people who leak photos, have been teasing us with snippets of information on the new E71 for a while now and it surely cannot be long before Nokia throw in the towel and give the thing a release date. It’s so close, we can feel it in our palm, so to whet your appetite further, here are the current specs as we know them:
Key features of the Nokia E71

• Full QWERTY keyboard below a 320×240 resolution display.
• A 3.2 megapixel camera.
• Just 10mm thick and weighing 120 grams.
• Assisted GPS built-in.
• Wi-Fi and 3G HSDPA connections give flexibility for fast data transfer.

The Nokia E61 never really challenged for the throne in full QWERTY-keypad-smartphone-land, but the E71 that replaces it looks set to change that with a fantastic design and a thickness of just 10mm – a real rarity in these circles. It looks usable too, with sensibly sized keys and a large, central navigation d-pad to control things. The d-pad surround lights up as an event alert too!

The E71 is a Symbian powered smartphone, so any amount of downloadable goodies are available to users, as is the inclusion of a PDF reader and document viewer to cement the handsets clear business intentions. Of course, POP3 and IMAP email are supported, along with Nokia’s For Mail Exchange and the Blackberry system too if you should want it. Away from the business side, there’s the camera and a music player to keep you occupied. All the early reports on the E71 are favourable, making it look like Nokia have a serious business-phone contender on their hands.
