Nokia are about to slash mobile phone prices

There are strong rumours circling in the mobile phone market place that Nokia are about to slash prices by as much as 20%, LG mobile phones and Samsung mobile phones have made staggering progress in the last 5 years in attaining top 5 positions in the league of world mobile phone manaufacturers.

Will Nokia cutting prices concern LG, Samsung and the likes of Motorola? Motorola are suffering the biggest drop in market share and they do have a sizable portfolio of product available in the pre-pay market place that accounts for a sizable %age of the volume business, LG and Samsung would appear strongest at producing quality high specification mobile phones that are invariably higher priced; in this category applications and services that are available on the mobile phone are more important than price so it would appear that Motorola would be most at risk if this rumour were to be true.

The rumour on price reductions comes along side a rumour that Nokia are about to take the fight for world dominance to LG and Samsung’s homefront and if Nokia does slash prices they will have to do so on their own range of higher priced mobile phones such as the Nokia N95 unless Nokia believes that they can flood the market in the emerging nations with their range of cheap mobile phones, that action could certainly affect the volume of sales enjoyed by LG and Samsung in their home markets and would likely force them to enter the lower priced market place. The certain good news is that the consumer as always will benefit if these mighty mobile phone manufacturers commence battle. We shall keep you informed.
