Samsung Gives 8gb With Omnia - Samsung I900 Omnia 8gb UK

The latest release from Samsung's I-range of mobile phones has now been launched on Orange in the UK, the Samsung Omnia is the manufacturers newest touchscreen device and is available in two memory capacities, 8GB and 16GB.

Its the 8GB edition that has now been picked up by the Orange network after an initial release on O2, this now doubles the number of tariffs available to consumers when trying to match their usage requirements making it far easier to get the right package for their needs.

The Samsung i900 Omnia has been said by some to closely resemble the iPhone from Apple, however this new device actually offers far more functionality and freedom when it comes to software and network choices.

With pretty much everything you could want from a mobile phone, the Samsung SGH-I900 offers some major features. Ideal for business users, the Samsung I900 comes with a built-in GPS receiver and powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 PocketPC operating system.

UMTS/HSDPA enabled with 3G connectivity and inclusive of WiFi capabilities, the Samsung Omnia includes a 5 mega pixel camera with autofocus, video capture & playback and a massive 8GB internal memory with the option for further expansion. It’s also worth noting that the microSD card slot will apparently support microSDHC cards as well.

It wouldn’t be complete without Bluetooth for wireless data transfers of files and images to compatible devices within a 10 metres radius and handsfree voice calling. The Music Player is accompanied by an FM Radio for tuning into your favourite radio stations or catching up on the latest news and sports headlines.

The 3.5 inch touchscreen is a good size for browsing online, viewing documents and catching up on emails, plus images can be viewed with a far greater quality and clarity however the screen on the Samsung i900 will include Gesture Control which is fantastic news. Other features of the Samsung i900 Omnia include TV Out, RSS Reader, MSN Messenger, Google Maps and Video Streaming abilities.

Impressive to say the least, Samsung have also managed to give this smartphone not just a great spec but a high quality superior design that truly does make it worthy of its status as a high end device.

Although initially available on O2 and Orange the Samsung Omnia is expected to be released by further UK networks in the very near future as well as being made available both as a SIM free phone and Pay As You Go handset.

There are also colour variants planned for the Samsung Omnia with confirmation already of a new white edition, however rather than changing the entire colour of the exterior casing of this phone the manufacturer has opted instead to simply change the colour of the back panel to a brilliant white - rather iPod looking don't you think?

DivX Certification granted to the Samsung Omnia mobile phone

Samsung and DivX have entered into a multi-year contract which will include DivX encode and decode into Samsung’s future mobile phones. And the first Windows Mobile based DviX certified mobile phone on the market will be the Samsung Omnia or Samsung SGH-i900 and the fourth Samsung mobile handset to achieve DivX Certification.

The Samsung Omnia features 8/GB16GB internal memory, 3.2 inch touch-screen display for easy enjoyable video playback, TV-out which will allow the playback of content from the Samsung Omnia direct to a TV set. In fact the Samsung Omnia is one powerful portable library that gives the user the choice of how and where they want to watch a video.

Vice President of Marketing for Samsung’s Telecommunication Business, Younghee Lee, says in a press release: “By including DivX video decoding in the Omnia, we’re giving our users the high-quality technology they would expect from a mobile phone with an advanced feature set. Samsung will continue to provide a flexible, enjoyable multimedia experience to our consumers with DivX on our mobile devices. It was of strategic importance to continue our relationship with DivX, for value added not only in the Omnia, but throughout the Samsung mobile line.”

DivX, Inc., CEO, Kevin Hell adds: “As the availability and creation of video content explodes, being able to take videos from the PC on-the-go and from the mobile to the living room is of increasing importance to consumers. Sdiamsung has recognized that DivX allows users to do more with their media, and we’re pleased that Samsung has continued to expand DivX certification to their mobile devices.”

Products bearing the DivX certified logo mean they have gone through rigorous tests to make sure of a high quality DivX experience.

iPhone-like Windows Mobile device has 16GB of storage

Samsung has announced an iPhone-like Windows Mobile 6.1 phone with a proprietary "TouchWiz" user interface. The SGH-i900 Omnia boasts a 3.2-inch widescreen QVGA display, 8GB or 16GB of storage, a 5-megapixel camera with electronic flash, GPS, WiFi, and an FM receiver.

Clearly intended to remind one of the iPhone, the Omnia is visually similar. Measuring 0.5 inches thick, it has a brushed-metal back, a screen that covers most of its front, and a finger-touch user interface. Fortunately, one resemblance goes further than skin-deep: like Apple's device, the Omnia is available with either 8GB or 16GB of flash storage, making it the most capacious Windows Mobile phone we know of. Unlike the iPhone, it also has a microSD slot, allowing the addition of even more storage.

The Omnia hides its Windows Mobile 6.1 origins under a "TouchWiz" user interface, which allows personalizing the home screen with "widgets," Samsung says. The phone's touch-sensitive, 3.2-inch screen uses "intuitive tap, sweep, drag and drop operations," and is supplemented by a tiny trackpad. As with the iPhone and other Apple gadgets, a built-in accelerometer automatically switches the screen from portrait to landscape mode when the phone is rotated.

The device has room to store movies, and its WQVGA (400 x 240) display is suitable for 16:9 widescreen content. Supported formats include DivX, XviD, H.263, H.264, WMV, and MP4 files.

Another media-friendly feature on the Omnia is a built-in FM receiver that, as with most mobile devices, uses the wires in an attached headset as an antenna. Other wireless interfaces include: quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM telephony, supporting HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) and EDGE (enhanced data rates for GSM evolution) data transfers; Bluetooth 2.0; and 802.11b/g WiFi.

The device includes GPS, with geotagging capabilities that allow recording the coordinates of photos taken using the phone's integral camera. More ambitious than on the vast majority of phones, the latter offers five megapixel resolution, autofocus, image stabilization, a face detection feature, and automatic stitching of multiple photos into a panorama, Samsung says.

The Omnia apparently also sports a digital-camera style electronic flash unit, based on Xenon-tube technology rather than the LEDs used by some previous cameras. Finally, Samsung touts video editing capabilities, said to include the ability to trim files, dub audio onto them, or add subtitles.

Features and specifications released by Samsung for the Omnia include:
