On Monday, T3 got an opportunity to view the Nokia N96 in the wild, which is expected to arrive in September and will be available on the Mix & Match contracts for around £15 per month, with 3 mobile.The Nokia N96 is one of the most closely watched new releases from the Finnish phone maker as it will be competing closely with Apple's high-profile device. While the N96 has avoided playing copycat with a touch-screen interface, it does pack more than enough tech power to keep pace. Connectivity includes HSDPA and Wi-Fi, and it has 16GB of integrated memory, completely wiping the floor with its 8 gig predecessor, although Nokia later upgraded the N95 to a 16GB option as well.
Where it really beats the iPhone though is the camera - the N96 sports 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with dual LED flash and with instant upload tools for Flickr, Vox, Yahoo! and Google.
Best of all though, it doesn't look dull as dishwater, like so many of Nokia past and present phones. Gone are the N95's crude angular edges, to be replaced by smooth line and gorgeous curves. No matter whether you love or hate Apple, we have to thank it for putting a rocket up the collective arse of mobile designers.
